Employee Testimonials
“When I decided that it was time to make a change in my professional life, I wanted to have a change in my personal life as well. When looking for new employment opportunities, work-life balance was extremely important to me. When I found the position at Crow Wing County, it aligned perfectly with my desire to have that work-life balance so that I could indulge in all of the things that I love like spending time outdoors, hiking, biking, walking, fishing, and being on the lake- and what better place to do all of those things than in the beautiful Brainerd Lakes area. I am so thankful that I took the ‘leap of faith’ in moving to, and joining, Crow Wing County; it has been everything that I was looking for and so much more!”
“I started working for Land Services in 2008 as a Land Services Supervisor. I held that position until 2017 when I resigned and took a position with the State of Minnesota for five years. While I enjoyed my State job, I really missed working at the local level where you can work directly with landowners and assist them with developing their property in an environmentally safe and sustainable way. What drew me back to Crow Wing was the positive change in culture in the Department and the focus on providing excellent customer service. There is such a positive vibe in the Department, and it really impacts the overall attitudes of the staff. In addition, we are getting over 95% positive feedback from our customers as well – that is what has made coming back to Crow Wing so rewarding.”
“At the beginning of my career with Crow Wing County, I was offered a position in Community Services helping clients at the front desk. I knew that wasn’t where I wanted to be in the long term, but I wanted to get my foot in the door. I was in that role for about 11 months when I applied for and was offered a role as a Financial Worker. I continued to grow and learn in that role but knew it still wasn’t my end goal just yet. Not long after, a Human Resource (HR) Specialist position opened up. I didn’t know much about HR but knew that my prior experience in customer service along with what I had learned while in my roles with the county would help me to be successful in assisting employees and it was just the opportunity that I had been looking for. I am now starting my 6th year with CWC. I absolutely love working so closely with all of our employees and could not be happier.”
“Working as a Security and Recreational Deputy, I get to make a difference every day—keeping people safe, supporting my community, and working alongside a team that truly cares. I enjoy the variety of work, the stability it provides, and being part of a team that takes pride in serving our community. A career with the county offers stability, variety, and the chance to grow. I love that I have the privilege to work with a dependable team while contributing to a community we’re all proud to serve.”
“My co-workers are the best part of my job. This job would be impossible to do alone, and I know I can count on my co-workers in any situation. I also enjoy putting the uniform on every day. There is a sense of pride when you put on the badge and that this job is so much more than just the paycheck. It’s about the people you serve throughout the community and the great people I get to work with every day.”
“I came to Crow Wing County when I was ready for a career change. After eight years of managing a non-profit, I explored other options in the Brainerd Lakes Area. During my research, I learned CWC had a wide variety of positions, and I was qualified to apply for many without additional experience or education. The hiring process went smoothly and soon after I was excited to start my new job with the same pay (starting out) and much better benefits. Currently, I’ve been working for ten months, supporting the County Administrator’s office with customer service, coordination and performing a variety of general office services. I’ve learned more about our local government than ever before. It has been great to learn a new field while I also utilize my past skills and experience. Even though I’m comfortable in my current role, I appreciate that CWC has a variety of other positions that I could explore one day if I’m ready for a change.”
